Also known as Villa de San Miguel and more commonly called as Malacanang Church (due to its proximity to Malacanang), the National Shrine of St. Michael and the Archangels was inaugurated in 1835 after 36 years and 17 parish priests since construction started by the Franciscans. However, the original church was first established by the Jesuits in 1572 in this settlement called San Miguel along the banks of the Pasig River.
