The Malate Church is a Baroque-style church which faces a small park and beyond that Manila Bay. The church was built originally on this spot in the sixteenth century by the Augustinians, and is one of the oldest churches in Manila outside of Intramuros.

Brief History:

British soldiers took refuge in this church during their occupation of the Philippines and attack on Intramuros in 1762-63. The church was destroyed in 1773, rebuilt, badly damaged in World War II, and later restored again.

Malate Church is dedicated to Nuestra Senora de Remedios (”Our Lady of Remedies”), the patroness of women in childbirth. A revered statue of the Virgin Mary in her role as Our Lady of Remedies was brought from Spain in 1624 and stands at the altar.

It’s now another favorite church for weddings.

Reviews:

“i recommend Malate Church for their being organized and systematic inspite of being a little strict na rin.” — joed

“their staff and the
priests are all very accomodating. medyo nagkaron kasi ng some
problems sa requirements namin plus we submitted it late na sa
deadline, ok parin sa kanila!! then their 2 half-day seminar was very
informative!! the church has an antique feeling to it tsaka super
haba ng aisle kaya na enjoy ko talaga ang bridal march ko!!! tapos
malapit sa manila bay kaya madaling mag-pictorials ng sunset. the
only thing is 90% of our guest are balikbayans talaga naman na super
pawis kami dahil ang init, walang aircon!!! oh one more reklamo ng
family members namin…since lahat american time kung dumating
sila..they were trying to open the electric fans para naman daw
lumamig ng konti..but the sacristan said since 3:30 pa sched ng kasal
namin, kaya 3:30 pa daw puwedeng buksan yung mga fans!!! buti nalang
i provided more than enough pamaypay to all my guests. and reklamo ko
naman dito sa church na ito, it is located in between busy
streets..kaya maririnig mo yung mga busina ng mga dumadaan na jeeps
and cars, wala lang nakakabawas sa solemity of the ceremony eh!!” — trinity

“Pro’s: SUPER long aisle, pleasant staff, well ventilated

Con’s: Very strict in terms of keeping the ceremony simple, since all the doors are open outsiders are free to enter, outside Photographers taking and selling pics to entourage and other guests.” — ricci
