Mary The Queen Parish

21 July 2007 3 Comments

Mary the Queen is envisioned to be a community of active and faithful followers of Jesus Christ, striving to live the fullness of the Gospel and to make the Eucharist the center of their lives through the intercession and inspiration of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

History:

On September 20, 1954, Mary the Queen Personal Parish for the Chinese was created by His Excellency, Msgr. Rufino J. Santos, Archbishop of Manila, by virtue of the faculty granted to him by the Sacred Roman Consistorial Congregation (July 23, 1954). Theparish chapel was located at 2437 Zamora Street, Pasay City. The personal parish had the following limits: “In the north, boundary line of Manila and Quezon City, towards the Marikina river in the east, running down to the southern towns of Rizal, comprising San Juan, Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Makati; down the boundary lines of Cavite and Laguna provinces. All the Chinese inhabitants willconstitute the members of the New Parish.” At that time, Fr. George Etienne Beauregard, S.J. was appointed the first parish priest (November 24, 1954), while Fr. Luis Chia, S.J. was appointed the first assistant parish priest (May 1963).

In the year 1963, the Jesuits were able to purchase a few hectare of land in Little Baguio, San Juan for the purpose of transferring here the Xavier School from its previous location at Echague, Quiapo. A 5000 square meter lot was allocated also for transferring the Mary the Queen Church from its original location at Pasay City. On May 31, 1963, His Eminence, Rufino J. Cardinal Santos, blessed the cornerstone of the new church situated between Xavier School and Immaculate Conception Academy in Little Baguio, San Juan. After two years of construction, the Mary the Queen Church was finally opened to serve the faithful on May 31, 1965 with the blessing of again His Eminence Rufino J. Cardinal Santos.

Reviews:

“MTQ has been my family’s church when I was young. I have learned from this group na in terms of wedding sila yung isa sa pinaka strict but wala ako nagingproblem sa kanila. Madali kausap si Ms. Precious andgaling mag follow up..Ok na ok ba ang precana seminar kasi kasama na family planning dun…I super love our priest si Fr. Cesar Marin, binigyan nya kami personalized homily based sa canonical interview namin..All in all, I would recommend the church for its simplicity and solemn wedding mass that was given
to us. (wala lang ito aircon ha!!!)” — Toto & Menggay

“We chose this church because this is the church where we practically grew up. This is also where we hear mass . We were both baptized and confirmed here so requirements were very easy. We didn’t need to submitt certificates anymore. Just the cenomar, pictures, weddings banns, seminar and canonical interview. We found the 2-day seminar nga lang medyo mahaba. I personally feel na the things discussed in those 2 days can be shortened to 1 day. The ambience is very nice, gusto ko kasi yung maliwanag. Since hindi pa naman masyadong mainit ng February,it was okay na hindi sya aircon. At first they said strict dito, but for me okay naman. It depends I think on the priest. Luckily for us, our priest was not.” — Willen & Tin

“I believe Mary the Queen represented the kind of ceremony we wanted to have: simple, no frills, but full of meaning. ” — Marvin & Yasmin

“The office staff were very easy to talk to. They didn’t give us a hard time with paper work and certificates at all, especially with the Pre-Cana Seminar. We had it in Australia, and though it wasn’t Marriage Encounter or the other `acredited’ program, Mary the Queen approved it. (It was also by a Catholic parish anyway) Their sound system was excellent. Lighting is excellent The Bad: It was just hot, period.” — Mark & Jean
