Pilar Tuason is one of the most sought-after wedding photographers in the country, but she proves herself to be just as adept with other subjects.

Pilar Tuason started in 1997 but became a professional photographer only six years ago. Shooting with both film and digital cameras, she shows a fondness for black-and-white and infrared photography.

She taught herself the craft by just observing other photographers at work, reading a lot of photography books and magazines, studying theories of light and color, composition. And as is often with autodidacts, she produces pieces that can considerably compare with the best in the art and the profession.

Her photographs are mostly in black-and-white film. Specializing in fine-art portraiture, she has produced over 70 wedding annuals.

She is the photo editor of Digital Photographer magazine. She put up Bella Luce Studio on Rada Street, Makati City.

As artist, of course, she is looking for that proverbial human factor. Like any photographer with an aspiration to art, she can stand there with her camera, or sit, squat, crouch or crawl while waiting for the right moment—that crucial factor that distinguishes a picture with soul from a soulless photograph.
