Situated in Aurora Boulevard in New Manila, Quezon City, Mount Carmel is another church favored for weddings. With its large, ornate array of stained glass windows, the church is romantic as it is serene.

Just a short history of the church, On Dec. 30, 1954, the cornerstone for the church was blessed by Archbishop Vagnozzi in the presence of Archbishop Rufino Santos of the Archdiocese of Manila, Most Reverend Marie-Eugene, vicar general of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites and Ms Mila Magsaysay, representing her father President Ramon Magsaysay. This cornerstone is located just below the main altar.

Ten years after the laying of the cornerstone, Rufino Cardinal Santos, archbishop of Manila, formally consecrated the shrine to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. A few years later, the shrine was separated from the Immaculate Concepcion Parish, with Fr. Paul Sullivan being installed as its first parish priest. Another pioneer in the development of the parish is Fr. Tom Shanahan who was involved in the work on the shrine community center.

  1. CENOMAR – Certificate of No Marriage from the NSO (for non-civilly and civilly married).
  2. Marriage Contract from NSO (if civilly married)
  3. Birth Certificate of Bride and Groom
  4. Certificate of Baptism (Bride and Groom) with parish seal and marked “For Marriage Purposes”.
  5. Certificate of Confirmation (Bride and Groom) with parish seal and marked “For Marriage Purposes”.
  6. Permission from the Parish Priest of the Bride and Groom.
  7. Publication of Marriage Banns in the parishes of the Bride and Groom for 3 consecutive Saturdays.
  8. Attendance of Pre-Cana or Pre-Marriage Counselling (2nd & 4th Saturday of the month at Mt. Carmel).
  9. ID Pictures and Residence Certificates.
  10. List of Primary Sponsors
  11. Canonical Interview with a priest at Mt. Carmel (Tuesdays and Fridays) with all the requirements above.
  12. A letter of delegation from the parish office for couples who have their own officiating priest.

Constructed in 1599 by the Augustinian friars, the oldest religious order in the Philippines, this baroque church was originally called Nuestra Senora de Gracia (Our Lady of Grace), in honor of a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary housed inside. The architecture is marked by four Doric columns and leaf carvings above the main entrence. A big bell tower stands at the right side of the church. The sacristy is behind the apse, while a door at the left side of the altar leads out to an old cemetery.

Limitations and Restrictions

Number of Principal Sponsors

  • Only six pairs of ninongs and ninangs are normally allowed. If the couple insists on having more than six pairs of the principal sponsors, there will be additional charge of Php200 per pair.


    • Number and age of entourage

  • The ring/Coin/Bible bearer and flower girls should be 4 years old and above and should not need the assistance of parents or guardians when marching down the aisle to avoid delay in the ceremony.


    • Area for Photographers/Videographers

  • Photographers/Videographers mus stay in one place especially if it is near the altar. No stepping from one point to another. No stepping on the sanctuary.


    • Recessional Favors

  • Confetti,lose petals, doves, bubles and butterflies will not be allowed as extended greetings inside the church.


    • Others

  • Pets are absolutely not allowed inside the church.
