The Plaza Catering as a company has been in existence for over 45 years with its primary purpose to function as a restaurant. Catering was an offshoot of the primary purpose having been introduced in the late 60’s because the Company was reputed to excel in providing quality food and services.
The Company initially catered to homes of Manila’s elite, top corporations and government institutions, among them the Central Bank of the Philippines. Because of its extra ordinary performance in this field, the Governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines, then Gov. Gregorio S. Licaros took note of our expertise and awarded, without any bidding, the concession to exclusively manage and operate the food services of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) when it opened in 1976 for the IMF-World Bank Conference.
The Catering business prospered in the 90’s when the only restaurant outlet then called ALING ASIANG SPECIALTY RESTAURANT was closed to give way to Ayala Land’s redevelopment plans for the Greenbelt area. At this point, the Company moved its central kitchen operations to Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong and, without a restaurant outlet, The Plaza simply continued operations as a Caterer.
In 2004, The Company was forced to relocate its central kitchen operations to a new site in Makati. The new commissary facility has a total of 1,338.08 sqm. and is equipped with brand new walk-in freezers and chillers along with moderately new machines and equipment necessary for the operation.
In 2005, The Plaza decided to expand its services by retailing one of their best selling products, The Plaza Premium Baked Ham which was launched in 2006 with two outlets mainly for pickup and delivery in SM Mall of Asia and SM Mega Mall. Two other outlets opened last November 2010 at the 4/F, Home Department of the prestigious Rustan’s Makati and at Petron Square Dasmariñas along EDSA in Makati. In March 2011, Go Gourmet was launched at the 4/F, Home Department of Rustan’s Makati. It offers The Plaza’s other premium products such as the Boiled Corned Beef and other pre-prepared, ready to cook or ready to eat items for take-out.
