Villa San Miguel Church

Also known as Villa de San Miguel and more commonly called as Malacanang Church (due to its proximity to Malacanang), the National Shrine of St. Michael and the Archangels was inaugurated in 1835 after 36 years and 17 parish priests since construction started by the Franciscans. However, the original church was first established by the Jesuits in 1572 in this settlement called San Miguel along the banks of the Pasig River. But after the Jesuits left/expelled from all Spanish territories, it was the Franciscans who built the church. The church that we see today was built in 1913 which became a pro-cathedral of Manila in 1946-1958 and in 1986 designated as the National Shrine of Saint Michael and the Archangels.

Aside from its historical significance, the church is one of the few churches in Metro Manila that has regular schedule for baptism and confirmation. As quite a number of us do not have the sacrament of confirmation due to one reason or another, the church is very popular for the service. However, it still remain as one of the underrated wedding churches.

It must also be noted that Villa San Miguel is a beautiful church and would be a lovely church to have your wedding. Its altar is adorned with beautiful statues of the archangels(St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, St. Uriel, St. Sealthiel, St. Barachiel and St. Jhudiel). A sculpture of St. Michael the Archangel fighting Satan stands outside the church. The present church, notable for the beautiful symmetry of its twin bell towers, follows the mold of European Baroque architecture. The church surrounding is very clean and quite. It is inside Malacanang compound, after all.

One notable wedding held in this church is that of Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Romualdez in May 1, 1954. They had then President Ramon Magsaysay at principal sponsor who held a breakfast reception at the Malacanan Palace. Since the church is inside the Malacanang grounds, the security is quite tight.

I am one of the office staff of the National Shrine of St. Michael and the Archangels in Manila. Please be informed that one of the telephone numbers you posted on this web is incorrect, it is the number of another church nearby and the office staff of that church are complaining to us because of this error. They have been receiving the inquiries about our church. Our correct numbers are 7361105 and 7341271. Thank you.

I just called them a while ago and they were not friendly at all. On my first call, I asked if this was Villa San Miguel, the old lady who answered the call told me this is not Villa and dropped the phone. Then, I called in again if this is San Miguel Parish, then the same person answered the call and told me this is not Villa and only San Miguel Parish. I asked for the details: 1PM for the Registration, 2PM Seminar and 230PM for the Confirmation.

Here are the documents you will need: Copy of your baptismal certificate
    Then bring 1 sponsor.
